StudyNode Privacy Policy & Terms
Version 2026-05-17 · Last updated May 17, 2026
StudyNode (“StudyNode”, “we”, “us”) is an educational platform that helps students learn, plan careers, take lessons, set goals, and collaborate. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the rights you have as a user. It is designed to align with major international privacy frameworks including GDPR (EU/EEA/UK), CCPA/CPRA (California), COPPA-aware student considerations (US), PIPEDA (Canada), and other applicable global laws.
1. Information We Collect
- Account information: email address, username, display name, grade level, optional bio and avatar.
- Authentication data: when you sign in with Google, we receive your basic profile (name, email, profile picture). We do not receive your Google password.
- Educational activity: notes, lessons, assignments, goals, quizzes, flashcards, career paths, attachments, and progress data you create.
- Communications: friend requests, direct messages, and group chat messages you send through StudyNode.
- AI interactions: prompts and responses exchanged with the in-app AI assistant.
- Technical data: device type, browser, IP address (for security & abuse prevention), and basic usage logs.
2. How We Use Your Data
- Provide and operate StudyNode features (lessons, goals, careers, chat, AI).
- Personalize content, recommendations, and learning paths.
- Maintain account security, prevent abuse, and enforce community rules (including profanity filtering).
- Improve product quality through aggregated, de-identified analytics.
- Comply with legal obligations and lawful requests.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use student educational content to train third-party advertising models.
3. AI Features
StudyNode uses AI providers (such as Google and OpenAI via a managed gateway) to generate lessons, summaries, quizzes, and assistant replies. Prompts you submit are sent to these providers solely to produce a response. We do not authorize providers to retain your content for model training beyond what is required to deliver the service.
4. Data Storage & Security
Data is stored on managed cloud infrastructure with encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest. Row-Level Security policies ensure each user can only access their own data. We apply industry best practices for authentication, secret management, and access control, though no system can be guaranteed 100% secure.
5. Cookies & Session Technologies
StudyNode uses essential cookies and local storage to keep you signed in and to remember preferences such as accent color. We do not use third-party advertising cookies or cross-site tracking pixels.
6. Third-Party Services
- Authentication: Google Sign-In (optional).
- Backend & storage: Lovable Cloud (managed Supabase infrastructure).
- AI inference: Lovable AI Gateway (Google, OpenAI models).
These services process data only to deliver StudyNode functionality and are subject to their own privacy commitments.
7. Your Rights
Subject to applicable law, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Request deletion of your account or specific data.
- Object to or restrict certain processing.
- Withdraw consent at any time.
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
You can submit access, correction, or deletion requests from Settings → Privacy & Data.
8. Account & Data Deletion
You may request deletion of your account or specific datasets (e.g., notes, chat history) at any time. Requests are processed within a reasonable timeframe and confirmed by email. Some data may be retained briefly for legal, audit, or abuse-prevention purposes.
9. Children, Students & Guardians
StudyNode is intended for students of middle-school age and above. Where required by law (such as COPPA in the United States or GDPR-K in the EU), parents or guardians should review this policy with younger users and supervise account creation. We collect only the minimum data necessary for educational use and never knowingly profile minors for advertising. Schools or guardians may contact us to review or delete a student’s data.
10. International Users
StudyNode may be accessed globally. By using the service, you consent to your information being processed in the country where our infrastructure is located, subject to safeguards appropriate to your jurisdiction.
11. Community Safety
Chat, friend requests, and groups include profanity filtering, blocking, kicking, and friend-only messaging by default. Harassment, hate speech, threats, or sharing of personal information about others is prohibited and may result in account action.
12. Policy Updates
We may update this Policy to reflect product or legal changes. The version and effective date at the top of this page indicate the current revision. For material updates we will request renewed consent the next time you sign in.
13. Terms of Service Summary
- Use StudyNode for lawful, educational purposes only.
- You are responsible for content you create or share.
- Do not attempt to circumvent security or abuse the platform.
- Service is provided “as is” without warranties; liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.
